I think it says 'coppersmith marine', which googling tells me is someone who makes/fixes the copper pipework on ships. (never head of it before)

I wonder whether it means he went to sea, or did his pipework on dry land - could be either I supose LOL!

Might not be copper pipework; could be copper-bottoming of wooden ships' hulls to deter barnacles and marine worms. Someone doing copper pipework is more likely to describe himself as a plumber.
