I think you have the wrong death as the 1879 one is living in Bridgwater in 1861/71 and has a different family. I think this one is yours:
Deaths Dec 1857
Coles Jonas Williton 5c 257
as Williton covers Stogursey.
Stogursey baps etc are online, but I don't see a bap for Jonas :(

Maybe his family were non-conformist or he was baptised elsewhere.
This submitted bap is five miles away from Stogursey:

That Huntspill baptism is also on the Huntspill transcriptions:
http://www.durtnall.org.uk/Huntspill/BAPTISMS.htm
But it doesn't say anything about them not living at Huntspill.
(edit - snap, Merry!)
The Huntspill parents were buried there in the 1820s (ie no apparent early move to Stogursey) so maybe that family are a red herring?

Thanks for all these prompts, I'll have a proper look tomorrow.
I will admit to being concerned about that death I had for him. One of those things, it's been on my file for years and haven't got the cert yet! I'll review that as well.

I agree, he doesn't seem to be there, but a number of his children are, so it's the right parish for something!
I don't think the Huntspill family are the right one, fascinating that the name is right, I've never come across a Jonas before and I would have loved that father's name in my tree! But I'm sure he is in censuses as a gardener/farmer. Thanks to both of you for all those Somerset links !

Doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I first saw the Huntspill bap on the IGI I thought the place seemed familiar in some way...........Of course, five minutes earlier I had seen the chap on the census whose death reg you had in 1879. He is the one bap in Huntspill ;(

The only evidence I have for this bloke's year of birth is the censuses, in 1841, which is always suspect, is is 1796.( I thought they were meant to round them up to 10 years, this made him 45) in 1851 it is 1791 (60 years old) and he died before birth years were added.
Despite what others say about death certs not having correct ages because the person who knew was dec'd, I have always found death ages to be more accurate than ages on the census, so I think maybe you should get the death cert and see what age is on that.

Ages on the 1841 census were round down to the nearest 5 years for adults.

In that case perhaps the YOB is nearer to 1791, I will get the death cert will order tomorrow. I don't think it's going to help find a baptism though!
