I just found a marriage in the LMA records & it says her father's name, Henry James Gazeley, then under occupation it has the initials "C. S. N. S. W."

I am thinking New South Wales maybe? But what would the C S stand for ? Convict ship?

If it's that 1894 one, then it's a bit late for convict ships, isn't it?

Could it be Chartered Surveyor?

He's a signalman in 1881, so is it something to do with railways?

I can't find him or his wife in 1891, but in 1901 Sarah Gazeley is living with hewr dau and son-iin-law (Banyard) and says she is married, but I can't find him anywhere yet. Maybe they went to Oz, but it didn't agree with sarah and she came back. She is still here in 1911.

How weird!

I notice he is Henry James on Constance's marriage cert, but James when living with Sarah. Maybe one of the Australian members could check to see if he was in Oz for me later when they're on here.

This is them in 1891 well Sarah & Constance anyway :

He was born in 1853 and there is a death in Ashfield NSW aged 76 in 1929. :)

There is a death same district in 1930 for a Sarah, but no age given. Parents names are William and Ann if that's any help?!!

There's a handful of other Gazeley BMDs on that site that could be connected.

OOOOH!!!!

In 1889 there is a MARRIAGE in Sydney of a Henry Gazeley to a Sarah Ibels.

So......maybe (if this is him, of course) he left one Sarah here and moved to NSW and married another Sarah?!!!

Well it would appear Henry was a Prison warden in Ashfield Juvenile Prison,Bristol,New South Wales.....C.S.N.S.W STANDS FOR
CORRECTION SERVICES New South Wales....and Sarah joined him in 1904...it would appear Henry went over first to set up home and a job...and Sarah Gazeley and her son Henry T Gazeley aged 3 went over in 1925....could this be a relation of Henry / Sarah ??......possible daughter and her son ?? but that`s another story ......clever these Aussies aren`t they Joan...lol.....allan

Oh dear slight problem with that Allan lol!

Sarah was born in 1852 & in 1911 she is living in Romford Essex near her only child Constance  The plot thickens! :d

Ooh, I found that Henry T Gazeley yesterday on some passenger lists - if I remember right he was travelling with a Mary Gazeley. Didn't think it was relevant as Henry was only 3 and I was looking for an older one!

Let me know if you want the details Joan.

Don't worry Elaine, it's Sarah that's my line, not the Gazeley chappie lol!
I was just intrigued as to what the initials stood for!
