I assume as his boat had 5 crew on it with him in 1849 that he returned to France with them and left his daughter here!

The FamilySearch Beta site has a baptism for a Josephine Louise Versigny 13 Jun 1824 at St Gervais, Paris, parents Napoleon Versigny and Cathrine Saintive. Wonder if her father is the same man as your Napoleon?

Oooh, That's interesting! His daughter that we have certainly always said she was from Paris on the censuses.
I had rather hoped the name De Vere would feature somewhere! Other than Napoleon none of the other names here have been reused.
