Another "cousin" of Robert Chaplin. :)

He's named in the will as Edwin Brooks of Ipswich, Suffolk a grocer.

I've found him in 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871. He's Edwin Brook born c 1804/5.

1841 and 1851 (transcribed as Brock) has his mother there too. Hannah born c 1775 in Henley, Suffolk.

That's where I think the connection may be as Henley has cropped up before as that is where John Woodgate and Rachel Chaplin married in 1773.

I don't have a Hannah as a daughter of John and Rachel although the dates fit. The first child I have for them is Mary in 1779.

Can anyone find Hannah's marriage to a Mr Brook? Or, Edwin's baptism?

I have a suspicion that Edwin's father and Hannah's husband may have been also called Edwin as there is a burial on the NBI for St Mary le Tower, Ipswich on 3 April 1838 aged 60.

That's the area where Edwin and his mother are in 1841. Hannah's burial looks to be 21 November 1856 at the same place aged 82. She is on the 1851 but not the 1861.

Ooops

Made a mistake in #1 and have edited it. I put that Rachel Chaplin married Nathaniel Woodgate, it should be John Woodgate.

There is an Edwin Brook baptism on the pilot site, 10 Apr 1778 St Matthew, Ipswich, date of birth 18 Mar 1778, parents Isaac and Sarah, which fits the burial you've found for the elder Edwin.

Oh thanks Kate

There a couple of other Brook names in this will, both deceased at the time the will was written and the legacies are to go to their children but I can't find them either. Robert Brook (Brooke or Brooks) and Benjamin.

Probably just not online, like so much Suffolk stuff.

Yes, it's really frustrating. I've no hope of visiting the records office again. Went to Bury St Edmunds years ago. I have loads more names now from Suffolk.
