There's a Joseph Stroud (age 9) in 1851 with his uncle Denis Woodard age 50.

Found a Martha Stroud (widow) in 1851.
HO107 Piece 1687 Folio 303 Page 9.

I wondre if she went back into service after her husband died and left Joseph with family.

Thats brilliant Libby thank you, yes i have her son Joseph`s birth and marriage certs, plus the census, in 1851 he is with his aunts husband, the aunt had died in 1848.

I had thought one or both of Joseph`s parents had died, but just couldn`t find them.

Looks like Martha is a cook in Gloucestershire in 1861.

Off to look for more.
