There is a James Crawshaw / Hannah Liles marriage on ancestry in the LMA records - St Giles Cripplegate, 20 Sep 1789. Have you looked into that already? Is Hannah's first name in her signature on there anything like your Hannah's signature?

THanks, KiteRunner - I have never seen that marriage as I have only been looking in the Cheshire area as Hannah and Charles married up there.

I haven't got Ancestry at present - just FMP. I'll have to do a switch one of these days and catch up!

I'm not sure if I've got a copy of the marriage of Charles and Hannah Blackshaw - I got the information from the Family Search Pilot site, which says she is a widow.

Oh, I also got the information from Cheshire Parish Reigster database (the one that is so hard to decipher!). This states that Charles was a servant ad signed and that Hannah Crawshaw was a widow and signed. So it looks as though I have no image.

Bother. If only the Cheshire images were still available on the pilot site. I don't suppose there's much point getting the image of the signature from the London marriage if there's nothing to compare it to! I just thought she might have got married in London the first time because of her saying "born in county" on the 1841 census, though of course it might be a mistake. There certainly seem to be more Crawshaws in the north, but I wondered whether James came from there, and then he moved back up with Hannah after marrying. But I haven't managed to find any children for them, death of James, or anything.

Thanks anyhow for your interest, KiteRunner. I'll have to put acquiring the image for the marriage entry in my "to do" list.

I didn't notice that she says "born in county" in 1841. I put the information together some time ago.

However, I have just found the burial of Charles Blackshaw on the pilot site -

Name: Charles Blackshaw
Event Type: Burial
Birth Date:
Birthplace:
Christening Date:
Christening Place:
Marriage Date:
Marriage Place:
Death Date:
Death Place:
Burial Date: 09 1834
Burial Place: Whitechapel, London
Father's Name:
Mother's Name:
Record Set: RG4_4496
Collection: England and Wales, Non-Conformist Record Indexes (RG4-8)

I have his admon from Feb 1835.

Anyhow, I assume it is him but the "non-conformist" entry bothers me slightly.

It's Register of Burials at Wycliffe Independent Chapel at Philpott Street on Commercial Road (formerly Cannon Street Road) in the Parish of Whitechapel, London from 1813 to 1835, if that helps.

Thanks KiteRunner - that makes sense, anyhow, as they lived just off Commercial Road:

His admon: "...late of Plumbers Row, Commercial Road..."

I wonder if Hannah was buried there in 1845??

I've been googling around but not managed to find out for sure whether they were still using it for burials in 1845.

Thanks for looking, KiteRunner. I'll make a note I need to search for Hannah's burial.
