Nothing to add to BK6 from this thread

I have probably been a little naive, but it's only today I've realised that when Ancestry added the transcriptions of London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 they didn't actually add transcripts of everything they have available.

I wonder why they couldn't have split the data set into two parts so we could clearly see what hasn't yet been done.

I received the Ancestry mag, "Updated", today. In it they mention they have finished indexing the London PRs 1538-1812, but they haven't finished, as far as I can see!

Maybe it's me, but I have tried and tried in the last few minutes, to pick up this entry by putting in various search terms, but I can't make Ancestry find it! (this is by no means the only entry I have found by trawling, but couldn't find afterwards by searching the index in the last week or so, but it's the only one I remember!! lol)

It's Joy's ancestor, Joseph Barber Brooks baptism:

the entry reads (from the PR)

2nd Oct 1808 Joseph B Brooks son of Robert and Elizabeth born 3rd Sept

and the church is St James, Piccadilly, Westminster

I would be very pleased if someone can find it by fiddling with the index - I'm thinking maybe I'm putting something in the wrong box! The only think a bit vague about the writing in the PR is the baptism date which is clearly Oct 1808 but might have been taken as the 1st, plus the surname is possibly written Brook with the s running into the word 'son', but other than that it is pretty clear.

I can't find it Merry. I have one from that church for 1766. (It's on Ancestry)

I still can't find any from Enfield on Ancestry, so not sure if they have finished.

Trouble is, if they THINK they have finished.................

Merry.......maybe they have....and just done it wrong...

I've got Mark Turner who was baptised 16 Jan 1760 St Andrews Enfield. Parents Simon and Joanna.

That is in the records somebody saw in England.

Now Ancestry has Mark Turner bapised 16 JUNE 1749 All Saints Edmonton ....same parents. So now do I look for a burial and a renaming or what?????????

How many Simon and Joannas are there???

Ahh....parish was All Saints. Borough was Enfield. Still a bit early, although maybe it is right. No idea!!!

Sorry...I've hijacked your thread.

Just because they have finished indexing doesn't mean they have put the records up for viewing.

I'll go and have a look for your missing man.

Although that is him, it's on a different database, taken from the BIVRI.

I can't make anything for St James Piccadilly come up from the LMA records (via the index)

Trouble is, how many others are not showing?!

Yes, that's the image I mean, but did you find it by trawling (like I did) or by some clever trick with Ancestry's search?

Sabrina

I trawled! I'm afraid I can't do any magic tricks with Ancestry search either! :( I see what you mean now, it's a bit disconcerting that the indexing doesn't appear to be complete, even though they think it is.
