View Full Version : Where did Levi Maynard go?

Levi Maynard was b and baptised in Kempston, Beds in 1834, the son of Samuel Maynard and Mary nee Mobbs. He is with his parents in 1841 and 1851.

In 1855 his occ was given as butcher (same as father) when he was convicted of assault.

The last sighting I have is on the Bedford jail database where he was given two months hard labour for an offence against the game laws (his third offence) - this was in Feb 1859. After this he vanishes off the face of the earth. Can anyone see him?

I don't suppose he was deported to Australia was he? I am guessing you have already checked the records on Ancestry for that? :rolleyes:

Well I've looked a bit, but there are so many ways of spelling his name I'm getting confused....Maynard, Minnard, Mennard, Mynard etc etc and a lot don't get captured by Soundex. Also Levi seems difficult to transcribe....Levi, Leve, Luve, Lwi etc etc

I have to go and get my car from the garage so am not ignoring you! *dons third pair of trousers to go out* It's freezing!

There's one who's born about 1875 and ends up a solicitor's clerk.

lol well neither of those are going to be him - "can read and write imperfectly" is what it says about him in the jail report, Poor lad was only 5'1" aged 21 - all my Maynards were short; I do wish they had asked more physical characteristic questions in the census! lol Imagine having to try and match up what they said about their appearence from one decade to the next!

Levi's younger half sister died in Ohio and a younger half brother died in Michigan, but they were only children when Levi vanished.
