...so why didn't I?

I have a baptism for John Goss on 31 Dec 1815 at St George the Martyr, Southwark, Surrey (born 2 October 1815). In my notes, at some point in the past, I wrote 'in 1841 this John is a farrier'.

Naturally I now can't find any trace of a John Goss who is a farrier in 1841. Can anyone else spot him?

It looks as if he is at 39 Devon Street. But he has no self evident family with him, just born in Surrey.

Thank you, Phoenix - that was quick! I can't tell you how long I spent looking for him last night!

Shame he's alone...I was hoping for some proof he is my man :)

Edited to add - I will now make a note of the reference so he doesn't go AWOL again!

But what happened to him afterwards?

There is a John Goss, farrier, right age, in a workhouse in Brentford in 1871. But he says he was born in Acton - and I can't find him in the previous two censuses!

No, I've been struggling with him. I kept getting side-tracked by a John Goss (married to Lucy) who's an iron moulder, but he's too old.

Can't see a likely marriage on the LMA records either - his father was also John Goss, farrier, and I was hoping a marriage might show if the older John was still alive.

Exactly what I did - till I founf him in 1841 too.

Trouble is, active young men without ties can go off anywhere.
