I decided to start a new thread. It links to this one:

Firstly, Frederick George Doe was living in Fordham, Cambridgeshire not Fordingbridge in Hampshire. That's family stories getting it wrong!
They married on 18 Sep 1926 at The Parish Church in Battersea, London. That is less than 4 months after her husband John died and exactly 3 months since she inherited his money, all £717 - 11s - 2d of it.
Mr Doe was aged 48 and a monumental mason. That means he was born about 1878 so the birth Merry found in Bury St Edmunds could well be the right one. He was also a widower.
Edith was aged 42 and living in St Mary's, Battersea. She was a widow.
Off to investigate Mr Doe now.:)
