Firstly, Frederick George Doe was living in Fordham, Cambridgeshire not Fordingbridge in Hampshire. That's family stories getting it wrong!

They married on 18 Sep 1926 at The Parish Church in Battersea, London. That is less than 4 months after her husband John died and exactly 3 months since she inherited his money, all £717 - 11s - 2d of it.

Mr Doe was aged 48 and a monumental mason. That means he was born about 1878 so the birth Merry found in Bury St Edmunds could well be the right one. He was also a widower.

Edith was aged 42 and living in St Mary's, Battersea. She was a widow.

Off to investigate Mr Doe now.:)

Right, which of these is his birth I wonder?

George Frederick Doe - Jun qtr 1877 4a 562 Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

Frederick George Doe - Sep qtr 1879 4a 448 Braintree, Essex

Marriage cert and death index give a year of birth as 1878

Father was William Frederick on the marriage cert but he is deceased and no occupation listed.

Found them both in 1881.

Geo Fred has a father William who is a stonemason

Fred Geo has a father Frederick who is an ag lab

You know Jay, I hadn't noticed anyone standing in the doorway before. I know what Edith looked like, will have to see if I can enlarge that bit. :)

edit:

Quite possibly, it's male has a suit and tie on plus a hat.:):)
