Nothing to add to BK6 from this thread

There's an entry in the England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892 on Ancestry for Mary Ludgate in Feby 1870.

I think it says "robbery with violence" as the offence, but what's that in the end column and does what it says explain why I can't find details of the case on the Old Bailey site?

Yes, I would agree it says Robbery with Violence for the offence. The bit at the end looks like Bill Ignd which I would think is short for Ignored. Not sure exactly what that means, though.

Hmmm.....thanks.

Quite a few of the other people on that page appear in the newspaper reports from the Central Criminal Court, but no mention of a Ludgate their either.

It's probably not the person I'm looking for, as she may well have been in an institution before 1861, but now I'm curious as to why this person doesn't appear in the OB records.

I'm guessing that "Bill Ignored" means there wasn't a trial.

Yes, I suppose that must be it. Oh well - thanks very much anyway!

There's a good explanation here

Basically bill ignored was where the Bill of Indictment was issued for the wrong reasons. I presume its what we would think of as the case being thrown out.

Oooh yes, Thanks Jackie!
