arrivals in South Africa and BMDs

Hi,

Are there any online records for people who arrived in South Africa aprox 1940? Also, for indexes for births/marriages/deaths?

A colleague at work is wanting to discover when exactly his grandfather arrived in South Africa and when he got married. He would also like to find out when his grandparents died there.

Any advice I can pass on to colleague is much appreciated.

Where did his grandfather travel from? If he travelled from the UK then he might well be listed on findmypast:

Unfortunately I don't think there is much South African stuff online but you could look through Cyndi's list to see if there is anything that might help:

I think he travelled from the UK; however, I have already seen him on one passenger list from the USA so I wonder if he travelled a little before settling in South Africa.
