If so I would really appreciate them looking at Robert Dunt's assisted emigration from England to Geelong, Australia. He's the only entry under that name.

I understand Robert's brother Adam also went with him (with their wives and families) and am confused as a website gives Adam's wife's name as Elizabeth when I think it should be Harriet?!

Many thanks if you can help.

Thank you.

Fortunately I do know the relationships. I think Elizh 27 should be Harriet, but as they've recorded Herbert as Hubert it could be an error - Adam's wife's name was Harriet Elizabeth.

Thanks again, I'm most appreciative.

There are also some Australian BMDs on Ancestry.

Eliza Dunt, aged 3, same parents, also died in Victoria in 1855.

Adam Dunt, aged 65, son of Adam Dunt, died in Geelong, Victoria, in 1883.

Robt Ward Dunt, aged 79, son of Adam Dunt and Frances Ward, died in Geelong, Victoria, in 1901.

Thanks Mary

That's them! Adam and Robert Dunt were brothers, sons of Adam Dunt senior & Frances Ward. Adam Dunt senior was brother of my gt x 3 grandfather John Dunt. Curiously, John and Adam senior's mother was Susanna Dunt nee Ward, Robert Ward Dunt's mother was Frances Ward and his wife was Emma Ward.

I've yet to work that lot out! Still thankful I've disentangled the two Adam Dunts (one John's son who married Frances, and one the son of John's brother Adam).

Thanks again for your help!

The children, Adam and Eliza, who died 1855 are on another site as having died at sea, presumably on the journey to Australia.

I've also found mention of Robert Ward Dunt being declared bankrupt, so it doesn't sound as though the Dunt brothers journey to Australia offered them a better future.

Herbert Robert Dunt married Mary Jane Hunt in Victoria in 1871, and they had 11 children.
Herbert's on the electoral roll from 1903 to 1924; he was a butcher until 1909, after which his occupation's left blank.

Thanks again Mary, just found two articles about Adam Dunt, one about him prospecting for "alluvial diggings" and the other an account of the inquest after his body was found on the seashore.

It's helped to know what happened to them after they went to Australia. Now why can't some of my Norfolk family who stayed here be as easy to find?!

It sounds from the article as though he struck gold.

Three Dunts from Geelong, including a son of Herbert's, served in WW1, and their complete service records are online:

Hi there Nell. A google search of my x3 great grandfather lead me here. My 3rd great grandfather being, Robert Ward Dunt...my 3rd great grandmother being, Emma Dunt nee Ward. R W Dunt and Emma had two daughters that married Sayers brothers. Emma Josephine Dunt married Alfred Fox Kay Sayers and Grace Victoria Dunt married Edward James Forbes Sayers(Grace & Edward being my 2nd grt grandparents). They were colonists of Geelong West and very well known and respected around the area,I believe. I am from and living in Australia. Currently working on my ancestry family tree. Just thought I'd touch base. kind regards.
Susan.
