I have a Bank of England will extract, which refers to probate being granted in 1812 at "Docters Commons". Googling has led me to some general information about "Doctors' Commons", but is there any way of obtaining the original will? The only pre-1858 wills I have are from various county record offices, and I've no idea about finding non-county ones.

At that period, death duty would be payable. Look up 1812 on Find My Past (Check first it isn't on Documents Online) and that will tell you the formal name of the court.

Doctors Commons was in London, so I assume the records would be held by London Metropolitan Archives, but it might be another London Repository. Or check if your local library has a copy of "Wills and where to find them"

Thanks Phoenix. I thought I'd checked Documents Online, but I've just looked and it's there, so problem solved.
