I've started to do some research again......WDYTYA has spurred me on!

Looking into the Indian stuff, i have found one of mine marrying a Thomas Lemaun...is this a french surname..or any idea where its from please.

If his wife was Madeline Elizabeth Gibbs, nee Collins, they had a son called John in 1877 and his surname is given as Lemann on that transcription.

in "real writing", a small "n" can sometimes look like a small "u", but not the other way round.

Thanks UJ. Looks like it could be German or Swiss...........i know a lot of mine married into the French lines but, this is a new one....

Hiya Jacky...on geneanet.org there are NO family trees for Lemaun but ONE Archive result ...1702 in Moselle, Lorraine ,France.....allan:)
