Good morning..
Thomas Merrick married Ann Phillips 15th April in 1823 in Norton Canon, Herefordshire....so I have Thomas Merricks parents and yob /pob Norton Canon....how can I find Ann Phillips dob /pob....I would presume in the Norton Canon area...on my tree I have her as b 1791, Norton Canon...this would make her 31 / 32 at her marriage
Thomas was born 1798 Norton Canon...children as follows

Ann and Harriet Merrick.... twins b 1824
John and Ellen ...twins again 1826
Edward 1828
Thomas 1830
William 1834 ........

So I am trying to confirm the details I have....would it be possible to find this family in the 1841 census....
does anyone think maybe Ann Phillips may have been previously married ??
if so, there may be stepchildren of Thomas in tyhe census....I am curious to know...thank you ...allan:)

And what was your source for Ann's pob??!!!

The 1851 census has her b at Pembridge, Herefordshire.

I will post the family shortly if no one else does, but have to put roasties in the oven before they turn to a mash!

I would say your best bet is to get a look at the parish register marriage entry as that should say whether she was a spinster or a widow.

Ah, this may be where Allan got the birthplace from - 1861 census:
Moore Village, Bodenham, Herefordshire
Ann Merrick Head Widow 70 Farming 100 Acres Hereford Norton Cannon
Maria Do Daur Un 30 Do Do
Thomas Do Son Un 28 General Manager Do Do

There must be some wills associated with this family, I would think.

Thank you girls....I knew I had seen Norton Canon birth somewhere....so ...she was born Pembridge ....wonder what happened to Harriet and John ?.....I have this terrible habit of filling in my tree but NOT putting the source down....I will have a look for Ann Phillips b 1791 Pembridge and I suppose by the 1841 census that Harriet aged 16 could have left home and John would be 14 and working...this is a huge family with farms all over this area....Edward b 1828 was my 4 x g grandfather and he had a 100+acre farm and servants in Ocle Pychard when my 3 x g grandmother was born in 1852....he was only 22 in the 1851 census and appeared to be rather rich.....allan:)

Found Harriet and John in 1861:
Moore Village, Bodenham
Joseph Haruss(??? have to check this name) Head Widower 50 Farmer 60 Acres Hereford Bodenham
Jhon Merrick Visitor Un 36 Tailor Master Do Norton Cannon
Harriette Do Do Un 38 Do Do

Are you sure about Harriet and Ann jr being twins? In which case, did Ann Merrick Phillips baptised 1823 die as a baby, or was Harriet also born before the parents' marriage?

Ah, Joseph's surname is Harris - found him in 1851 at Moor, Bodenham, but he is unmarried on that one and has a sister called Harriet about the same age as your Harriet.

Mary Harris Head Wid 66(?) Farmer employing 3 men Lincoln Parton
Joseph Harris Son U 43 Hereford Bodenham
Thomas Harris Son U 38 Do Do
Harriett Harris Daur U 29 Do Do

I would think there must be a family connection between the Merricks / Phillipses and the Harrises.

Now that`s opened a can of worms...I only have 1 Phillips, which is Ann in my tree and NO Harris family ?...from what you have found maybe Ann had the twins prior to her marriage to Thomas Merrick...so....were Thomas and Ann both single ? or was she previously wed ? ....if neither of them were married , why did they not marry before the twins were born - they went on to have 5 more children after Ann / Harriet....so why marry AFTER the birth of Ann b 1823 ?
am I on the wrong track here or could Ann Phillips have been NEE Harris ?and Harriet and John are with their Uncle Joseph (Anns brother ) in 1861 ?....allan:confused:

I was wondering that, Allan, though the Harrises were born in Bodenham and Ann never says she was born there.

Looking at Mary's age, she's too young to be Ann's mother, isn't she? But William was quite a bit older than Mary, so it could be that Ann was his daughter by a previous wife?
