Found the following on the Naval casulties list -
5 September 1943
HMS Proserpine, accident
WORBOYS, Raymond G, Marine, CH/X 111153, DOWS(Died on war service)
Turns out he's my great uncle.
I have the GRO ref for his birth and a ref for his death. The death is listed under War Deaths (Naval Ratings) 1939 - 1945 with the following ref -Proserpine 1943 Vol 11 page 4303

Question - can I order the death certificate as usual from GRO using above ref and would the certificate tell me any more about the circumstances of his death ???

Thanks

Can't answer your question, I'm afraid, but have you seen the photo of his grave?

When you go onto the GRO ordering site and choose the "Certificate Type", you have to choose "Death Certificate (overseas events)" and then you put the ref you have quoted above into the "GRO Reference" box on the application form page. But I don't know whether the certificate will tell you anything you don't know. Have you already looked for information about the Proserpine?
