Very odd, I can't find William or any other Fentons in Drake House Lane, Beighton in 1871.

Aha! They are at Sothal, Beighton - William didn't turn up on FMP search, just Ann!

Elizabeth - thank you. Having seen the 1861 entry I did have it from years ago, but put away in an old paper file. William married his housekeeper. I also have Elizabeth's book given to her when she went into domestic service as a girl, telling her her duties and how she should behave. The one that always makes me smile is how to roast a 12 pound piece of beef in front of the fire. How many of us have ever had a 12 pound piece of beef to roast ?

The house in Drakehouse Lane is still there although somewhat modified. My father was born there in 1902 (Charles s of Arthur, s of Isaac, s of William) and when I visited as a child it was 2 up, 2 down, with an offshot scullery - cold water on tap with a fire heated copper boiler, and a well in the yard. How we used to live !!!

I have spent time trying to prove that I am connected to the Captain Fenton who was an Armada admiral - the line is from the same part of the country, Sturton cum Fenton in north Notts.

In 1861 my forbear Isaac, son of Sophia was with his gr parents in Walkeringham.
