Devon place name help.

Could anyone please tell me whether Twerton was ever classed as being in the county of Devon?

I am looking at the 1851 census HO107; Piece: 1973; Folio: 429; Page: 25 and Maria Harper's place of birth. Could it be Twerton or is it more likely to be Tiverton?

Thanks Marg. But having looked at her on th 1861 Census I am confused :confused: She is now married [as opposed to being widowed in 1851] with the same husband and she states she is from Taunton, Somerset!

Don't you just wish they knew where they were born and whether their husband was alive or dead !

That 1851 "could" say Taunton.

Maybe she just didn't know what county Taunton was in. :D:D

Have you found her baptism?

Or, is she still alive in 1871? What does she say on there?

1871 says Taunton, Somerset as well.
No, I haven't found her baptism. Her younger siblings were all baptised in Gloucester or Cheltenham [her sister Elizabeth Milton is on 2xGreat Grandparent thread]. I was hoping her place of birth might also be where her parents married.
