Well it it's not the same person they are very closely related.

They are very alike, but I'm not sure they are the same person.

To me, the close up photo seems to be an earlier photo than the other one - based mainly on the lady's glasses which look 1950s in the close up, but maybe more recent in the first picture, yet the close up lady looks at least as old as your nan's aunt. What dates was she alive?

Merry right you might have hit that on the head one the top one I'm not sure if its Jessie Norton b1896 or her mother Mabel Playford b 1871 d 1956 , I can vaguely remember Great Aunt Mabel but Jessie I remember quite well but both pictures havent got any names on ;;;so that would fit mother and daughter

Do you have any other photos you know are Jessie? It's just that the 'other' lady has very distinctive earlobes (of course, they might both have!) and I wondered if we could prove they were not the same person from their ears.

Nope none Merry havde asked lady who lived next door to them and she said she thinks it Jessie in the sepia picture

I think the close-up shot is a lady of between 75 and early 80s and taken after WW2 but before 1960, making it more likely to be Jessie's mother or some other close relative, but not Jessie.
