If anyone is bored, lol!

I have information that:
Edward Lewis

married in 1885, Sept, East Preston (Sussex)

Mary Ann E Rayner

This is correct.

Please can anyone see this couple in 1891. I know absolutely nothing about them, not even their ages, but I would like to completely eliminate them from my enquiries. I am sure my informant has confused this couple with our "real" relatives, lol.

Please don't spend ages on it, I expect it will be a right pain.....

Thankyou in advance

OC

"Incorrect", I'm afraid that should say, OC. Looking on FreeBMD Mary Ann E Rayner has been transcribed as Isle of Wight, but looking at the actual index image it is Islington!

*submits correction to FreeBMD*

Edward Lewis married either Mary Ann Leggatt or Frances Ann Miles (the other bride married John Clear).

Oooh, right Kate - I did spot the Isle of Wight anomaly but didn't consider the significance.

How very strasnge - my contact states

"Ah, you have jogged my memory, Harry Lewis married Mary Ann E Rayner and they had two or maybe three children."

I found that Harry Lewis married Mary Holroyd, which suited me very nicely (June 1884, Huddersfield - which is where I found them in 1891, 1901 and the widowed Mary in 1911).

"Harry definitely didn't marry a Mary Holroyd, or if he did, she died or he divorced her"

(This is the contact who assured me that harry died young, unmarried, kicked to death by a horse....)

Thankyou also, Maggie, but in view of Kate's info, that's probably not who I am looking for!

Ah, I was posting at the same time as Maggie, Edward must have married Mary Ann Leggatt then.

Oh, this appears significant!

Mary Hannah RAYNER
to
George ~Edward HOLROYD

Huddersfield Sep 1880.

I would imagine George Holroyd is the brother of Mary Holroyd, or a close relative.

Hmmm. I am very grateful to this contact, who has given me a photo of my 2 x GGM (well, let's hope it IS her and not someone else, lol) but how far am I obliged to correct what appears to be a bit of a fragile tree, especially when the loose branches are not my direct relatives.....

EDIT - on the other hand, they are probably better at it than I am because:

Mary Hannah Rayner DID NOT marry George Holroyd, LOL!

I am going to bed before I can do any more damage to anyone's tree.

Did you tell the contact that they were wrong about Harry?

Olde Crone

Margaret

Yes, I told the contact I THOUGHT they might be wrong about Harry, as I have him married and living in the right sort of place, not kicked to death by a horse as a young man.

They have now remembered that yes, Harry married Mary (but Mary Ann E Rayner, not Mary Holroyd) and that they had two children, Arthur and Ann, and that Arthur married Martha......all of which I have just given them. I wanted to know why they thought Mary was nee Rayner. I am still waiting for a reply.

So who was kicked to death by a horse then? :D:D

Olde Crone

Margaret

Well, Alfred Trafford was kicked to death by a horse, aged 19, on the family farm. He was the brother of Harry Lewis's sister in law!

Alf / Harry

Not a lot of difference.

Not a great age for a horse, all things considered.

No Uncle John, if the horse had been 19 I would have written

kicked to death by a horse aged 19

If you're being that picky, "Well, Alfred Trafford aged 19 was kicked ......" says what I think you thought you meant to say.

And I thought I was pedantic!

You'd know the true meaning of pedantry if you met my late f-i-l. He was also a professional eccentric. He could go into a shop a year after his first visit and say "You do remember me, don't you?". And nine times out of ten they did.

Aaaah! Eccentricity...
