Chances are one of my local librararies will have MI's for the area, if not Lancashire Records Office should have them. I will have a delve and report back.

You will have tried this I am sure, but google street search covers the area with a photo of Mellings Farm.

Here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&q=%22mellings+farm+catforth%22&fb=1&gl=uk&ei=F9oPTKyhHZbUjAfQ8uD_Ag&ved=0CBQQpQY&view=map&geocode=Fc4ZNQMdNkrV_w&split=0&sll=53.811662,-2.799050&sspn=0.000000,0.000000&iwloc=A&sa=X)

Let me know where you have already hunted and I'll do my best :)

Oh, that's very kind of you indeed, Astoria, thanks very much for offering. Richard Etherington, Elizabeth's husband, died on the 19th April 1932 also at Catforth, so I would guess they are buried together and if there is an MI it might be listed under Richard Etherington. This is actually my partner (OH)'s tree, and he's always saying we should go up there and look round the graveyards but we never get round to it!

Richard's father Thomas Etherington was buried at St Anne's, Woodplumpton, in 1900, so I should think it quite likely that Richard and Elizabeth were buried there too, but there aren't so many 20th century burials and MI's online so I'm sorry to say I haven't really hunted much for their burials (or cremations).

If you do find time to go and look at the Woodplumpton MI's, could you please look for Matthew Etherington who was buried 26 Feb 1837, age 77, and Isabel Etherington who was buried 2 Mar 1818 age 56? Also Richard Etherington buried 3 Jan 1884 age 86 and Elizabeth Etherington buried 10 Jan 1860. Matthew's abode is given as Workhouse but Isabel's is Catforth and I think they may be the parents of the Richard who was buried 1884, but there doesn't seem to be a baptism for him. I'm just thinking that there's the slight possibility they might all be listed on the same MI!

Thanks again for your help. Let me know if there's anything you need looked up at Nottinghamshire Archives!

Details saved to the hunting file, will get on with it ASAP. I love a challenge. I'll keep you informed of progress.

I don't have anyone in Nottinghamshire yet, but who knows mine seem to pop up in the most unexpected places, thanks for the offer. :)

Hi Kiterunner and Astoria (nice to see you have joined this forum!),

I would like to repay the favour you did for me Kiterunner, you've tried to help with my horrendous Webb mysterys:d

I live approx 5 minutes away from Woodplumpton and Catforth is only a stones throw away. If you would like me to have a scout round the graveyards for you and take some pictures I will do so no problem!! Just let me know, I don't want to butt in on Astoria's challenge!!;) Sorry Astoria!

Elaine.

Wow, three of you tracking down my OH's ancestors! *pinches self*

Thanks very much, all of you, and do behave yourselves in that graveyard!

I hope you two (Astoria and Finbar) are prepared for this graveyard hunt!

Rumour has it that a witch is buried in that graveyard but it's a unmarked grave. There have been sightings of her wandering around the gravestones. I'm not joking either!!! I've known about this rumour since I was a teenager and my children (now in their 20's) know about it too.

So guys be prepared and come with crucifix and whatever else we need to ward off evil witches:d

I used to cycle past that graveyard with my best friend and we were too frightened to go in:o

Oh those were the days, looks like I will be reliving my childhood again!:D

I reckon you must be right Fin. I never knew the witches name, but it's definitely the same Churchyard.

Oooohhhh spooky!!:d:d

Elaine.
P.S. I googled Meg Shelton!
