I have no idea of the areas of Staffordshire, but have you seen this one. Hannah Sherratt

Hi Sylvia

Thanks for looking for her, but that isn't her. I think Norton, where that Hannah was born, would refer to a place between Leek and Stoke on Trent. Nowhere near where my Hannah was born.

Sharratt is very often written as well as transcribed as Sherratt, Sherrett, Sharrod etc.

Marg, I think I've eliminated all the Hannah Sharatts except this one which is on FMP but not showing on Ancestry (not to me anyway!)

SHARATT, Hanah 1875 16 F Lichfield Staffordshire

I've worked out her relationship is servant and she didn't say she was born in the places you mentioned! lol

I'll check that one out Merry. Lichfield isn't that far away. Trouble with Sharratt it is soooooooooo mistranscribable and misheard so I suppose mis-spelt. The family do appear as Sherratt a lot.

This is the one on Ancestry, transcribed as Staratt.

There is an Elizabeth Staratt there as well aged 18. Hannah did have an older sister Elizabeth so that fits.
Trouble is, they say they were born in Hill Ridware. I think some cousins were born there. I need to check that one out. Can't remember if I knocked the Hill Ridware ones off my tree as I wasn't sure about them. I'll have a good look at this one later, I have to go out soon

Thanks Merry.

Right, I've checked out the Sharratt / Sherratt family who were from Hill Ridware. I can't tie them in with any certainty. I cannot find, on the 1881 census, a Elizabeth or Hannah of the right ages born there. I searched with no surname and just Ridware in the keyword. Suprisingly came up with very few.

I've just checked and I've never been able to find Elizabeth or Hannah in 1891 so I reckon that is definitely them.

Thank you Merry, brilliant as usual.

I think I really need to do a lot more work on this family. It's a very common name in Staffordshire and I know at least three brothers on one side emigrated to the USA. There is loads on the IGI but a lot of it submitted as well as Ancestral files. I did start to check them out once but got sidetracked (as you do):d:d
