I have a photocopy of the Christening of OH's 2xgt grandfather in Stepney.
"8 June 1806
Willm son of Charles Blackshaw MSOP Shopkeeper and Hannah BOrn 10 March 1806"
I don't know, but I know I should! I've definitely come across this before and something tells me the M is Marine or something to do with that.

Is it definitely MSOP and not MEOT?

It's quite difficult to read, Kate. It could well be MEOP - it is in capitals and if it's an E it is written with curves rather like this but more in and out, if you know what I mean!

Because MEOT would be Mile End Old Town which would make sense if they were in Stepney.

Oh, yes - thanks, Kate. That must be it because it appears on some of the other entries too!
The Blackshaws were living in Mile End Old Town on the 1841 census - many thanks!
Is it definitely MSOP and not MEOT?
*tuts* I was too polite to ask that!!
