I've been searching on the 1911 census for either him or Mary but I can't find them. Do you think they had both died by then?

I was just writing that I didnt think that was them as she came from Ilkleston but the fact you have wrote Harry Revill makes it that it must be , now why did they go there I wonder ?? I have only ever had 5 children for them ;;

I have found a marriage worth investigation:

John E Johnson
married
Clara Whitehouse
Jun qr 1915 Doncaster 9c 1517

The initial is wrong but perhaps it was a mistake?

Am sending you the image Babs.

Mary isn't head of house though. Son John is listed above her and has signed the form. I does say she was from Ilkeston but I was only looking in Middlesbrough, so that's why I couldn't find them.

I would imagine they went to Rotherham for work, big mining area then.

Although it's been crossed out it does say she was married 25 years. As they married in 1877 that gives us 1902 when she was widowed.

This could be his death:

William Johnson
Sep qtr 1902
Middlesbrough
9d 362
age 48

There is no death in Rotherham of a William Johnson of the right age in 1902 +/- a year.

The only one in Rotherham was in 1903 and he was born in 1851.

Middlebrough only brings up the one I gave you in my last post, the rest are miles out age wise.

Asked at Middlesbrough about Williams deaths and took copy of listing down with me , they can take up to 5 days to deal with quieries and e-mails, charming they used to do things straight away ,,,,also charging £10 per cert there now so can imagine this is all Cleveland Council offices ;;

That one looks like it's the right one. Couldn't you order from the GRO?

I mean the one I found

borobabs
18-05-10, 21:34
I could but you would think that the boro would have had the right one ;;they have 2 listed but said the other one is 30 ;;;so bit mystery , and William had no daughter that would have been old enough to have registered it ;;

Babs I thought the extra £1 was for P&P, if your picking them up surely they can't charge more than £9 for them.

According to Guy (Etchells) Local RO's can't charge more than the statutory fee.

Was William living in Boro in 1901? Get the RO to check the address on the cert to see if it matches.

Jay they made me a bit m,ad today as they didnt really seem interested I took in copy of 1901 census with me to help them and that had the address wrote on it , she told me that they didnt need it and had my e-mail , was bit disapointed as they do know I spend quite some money in there but this was main registrar so didnt argue with her , it wasnt till I came home and got my copy of MFT mag that I saw on piece wrote in it that certs are £9-25 and felt bit cheated but I will question this when I'm back in hopefully later this week ;;

ElizabethHerts

I'd definitely get it from the GRO because if it is the wrong one (i.e. a completely different age) you can tell them their register is wrong and ask for a refund!
