I've sent it.

Do you have access to the Gale newspapers stuff? there's a long article (may be more) Nottinghamshire Guardian (London, England), Friday, January 15, 1869.

Yes, I do have access to that Merry.

I think it says Unlawful Wounding and he got 12 years.

I now have to work out which Thomas Smithson it was. The one I had earmarked for him was with his parents on every census so can't have been imprisoned for 12 years in 1869

The article says he lives with a Mr Spafford for whom he is a 'servant in husbandry'.

The Mr Spafford is Samuel aged 50 b Stoke, Notts in 1861, I think.

Yes, I've just found him in 1861 and 1871. Doesn't give an age for Thomas Smithson though. Might not be one of mine.

Thanks for looking Merry.

London is England, isn't it?

Yes, but Nottinghamshire isn't in London!

I agree with Kate. I get very annoyed when Burton upon Trent is put in Derbyshire. It's in Staffordshire.:mad:
