I've checked the index on 1911 and it looks as if they are still together but I don't have any credits, and was wondering if someone with a sub would please check to see if they married or what! Thanks in advance....

You can find out if they are married by using the free search on findmypast, Sue.

And according to that, Edith Victoria is listed as a widow and hmm, I can't see Frederick. If I'm looking at the right family...

Frederick Henry Bodger died Oct-Dec 1906 Romford age 55. There is a John Henry Grayland age 41 with Edith in 1911, her brother.

:o:o I should have checked that first! Sorry. But when I put Frederick in as "other person in Household " it came up with Edith.

But I still can't work out why they would be claiming not be married in 1891....

Sorry, Sue, I didn't explain very well - yes, you need a sub or credits to view the details, but if you use the free advanced search on findmypast you can specify marital status, so you can just try each one till it comes up with a match. Hope that makes sense, if not I'll try and explain it some more.

Ah, I can explain that bit - George's middle name is Frederick.

I expect the frederick you found was George Frederick Bodger aged 15!

As for the 1901 mess-up, I expect the enumerator got the wrong end of the stick and/or they hadn't filled in the form properly - maybe one of the children gave the info and there was a misunderstanding?

I had a look to see if any of the childrens baps were in the LMA records, but they don't seem to be.

OK, I've found Edith using advanced search - but that's all I get! How did you find that John Grayland was with her?

Thank you Howie for the Transcript! Much appreciated!

I'm still baffled by how Kite is getting all this info without a sub, tho! lol.

Edith was married before to someone who may have been her cousin..... but that's another story!

I used the wildcard search on the 1911 site - *a* for the surname with wildcard ticked, and specified Edith Victoria Bodger as other name in household, then repeated with *e*, *i*, *o*, *u* and *y*.

Just takes practice and a determination not to spend money, Sue!

I usually do it by entering

*a*

then *e*
then *i*
then *o*
then *u*
then *y* in the main surname box and Wildcard ticked, with the person you know is in the houseihold in the boxes at the bottom. You can also include the Reg district in the Residential Place box.
