What does the 49 mean after Ashfordby in this Extracted records on Ancestry please?

UK, Extracted Probate Records about Underwood, Adam
Text: Underwood, Adam; Asfordby 49
Book: Administrations. 1556-1649.
Collection: Wills and Adminsitrations, 1561-1577

Could it be his age, my Adam did die young, age 46 from the approx dates i have.

I've never seen the deceased's age mentioned in a will or admon, so I doubt it. Could it be the folio or page number, maybe?

Those parish and probate records on Ancestry are really badly indexed, I'm afraid. I think it's the folio number, as Kite says, but if you look at the actual image, probate was granted in 1743 (which is probably the year he died). There doesn't seem to be a folio number on the image, though.

If you e-mail the Leics RO they'll give you an estimate for sending a copy. It looks as though it's a will, not an admon.

Oh, I see from an old thread on FTF that you already have the 1743 will.

Sorry, just realised that the one I was looking at is a later will than the one you found. There don't seem to be any images for that one with the no. 49 against it, so I think an e-mail to the Leics. RO is the best bet.

In case you hadn't seen it, the Asfordby marriage index (1564-1837) is online, and there are a couple of Adam Underwood marriages:

Thank you Kite and Mary, IF this is the will of my Adam, he would be the grandfather of the Adam (1743) who`s will i have.

I have that marriage index in my favourites Mary
