Nothing to add to BK6 from this thread

I found this entry on Family Search Record Search:

Mary Ann Milwood
England and Wales Census, 1861

Name: Mary Ann Milwood
Age in years: 73
Gender: Female
Birthplace:
Relationship to head of household: Lodger
Record Type: Household

My search criteria was Milwood in Bedfordshire UK.

Can anyone see her on Ancestry? (or anywhere?)

I think they get their 1861 census from findmypast - have you tried on there?

Not yet!

I'm thinking this could be her:

Deaths Mar 1863

Millwood Mary Ann Luton 3b 294

Oooh, yes she is on FMP:

Household MILWOOD, Mary Ann 1788 73 F Luton Bedfordshire

I would try looking for her, but this seems to be the only site that's working on my laptop at the moment!

Aaaggghh! Normally I would just try and find her in 1851 instead, but I can't because it's not working.

By the way, I was reading in Family Tree magazine that Bedfordshire & Luton Archives have a new online catalogue, don't know whether you've already seen it:

Thanks for that, Kate.

I had tried using it before but it wasn't working properly. Will give it another go now. (the old online catalogue was lovely!! lol)

Ooh, she's on FreeCEN! (which is also working on the laptop) Lodging with John Jones 46 ag lab born Hertfordshire Caddington and his wife Mary Ann 31 bonnet sewer born Hertfordshire Caddington. Mary Ann Milwood is lodger, no marital status given, age 73, bonnet sewer, birthplace unknown (if their transcription is correct) which isn't going to help you much!

She's transcribed as Smilwood on Ancestry -

Ah, got ancestry working now. The FreeCEN transcription is correct, sadly.

Oooh, thanks you two! *frustrated emoticon*

Maybe when Ancestry get their act together with the 1851 I'll be able to find her on there?

Hooray! The 1851 census is working again so I can now see that Mary Ann was a deaf widowed laudress who was b in Market Street, Herts. None of which helps me to know if she's the mother of one of my mystery men and, more importantly if her maiden name was Maynard!

*goes round in circles for another 20 years* lol

Oh cripes! According to Genuki, Market Street Herts was in the parsh of Caddington which was Bedfordshire so I suppose the baptism records would be in Bedford not Herts RO? Then I have to think if she was a Maynard then she may have been non-conformist (don't know what denomination though as I've never found a record of any of them!).

Maybe I should take up a different hobby?

Yes, Bedfordshire Record Office website says they hold the Caddington parish registers. Though Herts might well have a copy as well, but I can't find anything on their site that says whether they do or not.

Marriage on the IGI:

James Millwood married Mary Ann Young 12 Oct 1813 Caddington, Bedfordshire.

And a likely baptism for Mary Ann - Mary Ann Young, 9 Dec 1787, Caddington, parents John and Sarah.

Hmmm, I just realised I saw that marriage, but it was before I knew she came from that area. I saw her with James on the 1841 census.

Oh well, back to the drawing board then.

Thanks for the help.
