I have two baptisms, both with the same registration entry but clearly different pages. What is going on?

From Ancestry there's
John Augustus Higho, parents John & Elizabeth bapt 3 Mar 1816 at St Luke Old Street reg entry 2218

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=1558&iid=31547_212651-00017&fn=John+Augustus&ln=Higho&st=d&ssrc=&pid=6503989

but also

John Augustus Frederick Higho, parents John & Elizabeth, bapt 3 Mar 1816 at St Luke Millwall (where is this?) reg entry 2218

John and Elizabeth's parents set out to confuse future genealogists???

From the looks of what you've typed, you have the rough book & the fair copy for St Luke Old Street. Are they both in Rose's registers or is one not in a printed book?

Could it be that because they added an additional christian name - they felt they couldn't go back to the original church - but wanted him christened with all the names???

I typed in a long reply but my internet went down when I tried to send it! Now on the laptop - his name is John Augustus Frederick on both sheets, and both have the same entry number (I think it was 2218) but the entry numbers are typed on one page and handwritten on the other. Both are headed Baptisms solemnized in the parish of Saint Luke in the County of Middlesex in the year 1816, and both have the same entries on, but different page numbers, so whichever book is the original, a copy must have been written out, and ancestry have indexed both copies.

Thanks Kit, JBee, Phoenix and KiteRunner

I was just puzzled about why the rough copy was indexed too - and indeed why they made a rough copy!

Ironic because despite the three first names and two baptism entries, I can't find out what happened to this chap, no burial found, nothing!

I have come across that several times Nell, they seem to write it all out again in another book, and ancestry give us both records, still at least this confirms he was born and baptised....seeing as how you can't find out anything further about him......lol

Lol!

A bit like finding the same person enumerated twice on the census making up for all the people who just refuse to be found on any census anywhere!
