I'm trying to sort out my OH's Crosland ancestors.

He is descended from Hiram Shaw and his wife Hannah, nee Crossland.

Hannah Crosland was born on 21st April 1823 at Ouchthorpe Lane, Wakefield and christened on 18th May 1823 at St John's Wakefield. Her parents were Richard Crosland and Anne, née Thompson.

Anne Crosland is on the 1841 census with her children. She was widowed by this time.
1841 Census
HO107 1272 Book/folio 2/38 page 23
Charles Street Wakefield
Ann Crosland 45 ? Y
Wm 14 Lbor Y
Benjn 10 Y
Richd 5 Y

Her husband Richard died either in 1831, just before the birth of their last child, or in 1838.

Richard Crosland was a butcher according to Hannah's marriage certificate and also the baptismal records of his children.

I have a theory that this is his christening:
Richard Crosland
25 Dec 1791 Thornhill By Dewsbury Yorkshire
Father Richard
and that his father married Hannah, probably Hannah Autee, and had further children christened at Dewsbury.

I think his parents are still alive in 1841:

1841 Census
HO108; 1269; 12/13; 18
Westgate, Rothwell, Carlton with Lofthouse
Crossland Richard M 75 1766 Ag Lab Yorkshire
Crossland Hannah F 75 1766 Yorkshire

I have a death certificate for this Hannah Cros(s)land :

3rd April 1856 St John’s
Abode: Oulton (between Wakefield and Kippax)
Aged 90 years
A/M/J 1856 Wakefield 9c 37
Died 31st March 1856 Oulton
90 Years
Widow of Richard Crosland (a farmer)
Old Age (certified)
Informant:
Elizabeth Abbey, present at the Death Oulton

I can't find a death for Richard Crosland who is given as c. 75 on the 1841 Census.

I'd love to get further to establish the connection between them all.

Have you had a look at the parish register entry for Richard Crosland and Anne Thompson's wedding to see the names of the witnesses etc? And looked for wills?

Kiterunner, no on both counts, unfortunately! I think I need another trip to Yorkshire.

I bought booklets of transcriptions for St John's, Wakefield, and got some information from that, but there are gaps in coverage. Also the older Croslands were over towards Dewsbury.

I'll look into the will scenario. Unfortunately, Richard Crosland seems to be quite a common name in that part of the world!
