Hmmm....maybe not - there's another JS living in Sutton in Ashfield in 1861, same age who has died by 1871 and his widow, Sarah, is still in the same place in 1871. There are no other deaths in Mansfield before 1871. If you haven't checked out thus death already then maybe you should, just to see if it's yours or the other chap's?

Thank you Merry, i have 2 of his daughters marriage certs both Dec 1863, Mary (My GGrandmother) in Derby on the 13th and Sarah in London on the 21st, only Sarah`s says deceased. Sarah was also housekeeper for her father in 1861, Mary was a servant elsewhere.

I did find a death in Basford Dec 1863, but thought surely he didn`t die in the week between marriages

My great-grandfather got married 10 days after his father's death, if that helps.

Now you have set me thinking Kite, Sarah was married by registrar`s certificate.
