Well it seems my Great Grandfather Woods is not the only one in my family to have done everything except be born.

In 1906 he married a Gertrude Mary Hancock and in 1907 they had a daughter. Unfortunately the mother died in childbirth and the daughter was named after her, named Gertrude Mary Woods. The issue here is that the birth and death of both Gertrude's took place in Bombay, India.

I have the Hancock to Woods marriage cert, but have been unable to find any refs or certs for the birth or death in 1907. Gertrude jnr married 3 times and I have found the details for all these and her death. She died in Tower Halmets.

What I would like to find (with your help if possible please) are birth and death details for Gertrude and her mum and also the place of burial in Tower Hamlets for Gertrude Junior which took place in 1985. Gertrude's final marriage was to a Ernest Walkerdine.

Thank you in anticipation of your assistance.

I would have thought if she died in Tower Hamlets in 1985 she would be in Manor Park or the City of London Cemetary.

Thanks Maggie. I hope she is in City of London, having been there for our dear friend Jean's funeral I can vouch that it is a lovely cemetery.

I am making that assumption because a lot of my relatives died in Bethnal Green, Mile End, Shoreditch and they are in either of two for the periods between the 1960's and now. Earlier on it was Chingford Mount or Woodgrange but I don't know if they were still open in 1985 they might still be open I suppose.

Is that also a crematorium, Maggie?

I can't find anything except the marriage and Gertrude jr's death, both of which you already have. Have you searched the overseas indexes on findmypast, Fi?

Have you tried the FIBIS (Familie of British India Society) ? They have some free databases, but I am not sure what years are covered, exactly.

The birth and death are not on this site but it might be useful later on. It's the british Library India office records (those that are indexed anyway)

The great grandfather is Richard.

On FIBIS only the marriage is there. Not the death or birth.

They do both burials and cremations.

Fi not all India records are on line. They will be at the British Library if you can get there.

I emailed them and a lovely man had a look for me and sent me copies of the registers but I'm sure I knew the dates.

Try the India mailing list on Rootsweb. Someone kindly looked up some info for me. Just post the details ie seeking info on X, Y and Z who were born, died etc in India. See what happens.
