So that would make her birth 1824 not 26

The age on her marriage cert and the 1851 census should be more accurate than on her death - what age does she say she is on the marriage cert?

There is an Elizabeth Rice age 15 in Diss on the 1841 census, with William 25, Henry 20, John 13 and James 11, all born in county except William, and their address is Westbrook Green. Is that your Elizabeth with her brothers?

Kate it says minor on W/C for Elizabeth he is of full age ;;

the 1851 census is when she is married and mistrancribed as Marton I think if not then I dont have her on 1851 ;;

She's 25 on the 1851 so probably born about 1825-6.

Cheers dear so like I had her down , just wish I could find her baptism to back up proper details know her father is James a labourer so thats right but cannot even find details of his marriage on freereg either dam mystery and loads of Rice's there

James and Amelia Rice's eldest child was born in Suffolk, so it could be that they got married there too, and there doesn't seem to be much Suffolk stuff on FreeREG at all.

Oh wait, forget that - FamilySearch has a marriage listed 3 Sep 1815 at Diss between James Rice and Millicent Waller, but it is a "submitted" one. But it should be possible to check since there is an exact date given. Where did you get the name Amelia Millicent Waller from, Babs?

borobabs

From contact on ancestry when it gives how trees compare ;;;

Or even maybe from there Kate naughty me for not putting down where source was from ;;

Some of the Rice children are listed with mother's name as Millicent / Melicent and some with mother Amelia. But it does look as though Millicent and Amelia are the same person, because it isn't all Millicent and then all Amelia, if you see what I mean.

FreeREG hasn't got Diss marriages yet so that's why James and Amelia / Millicent's marriage isn't on there yet. But it is strange that Elizabeth's baptism isn't on there, because the ones before and after her are, some of them twice!

Yes I noticed that Kate , must be honest havnt got any census details of James and Amelia

kiterunner

Since the children are together on the 1841 census without either parent, I would think that James and Amelia had both died by then.

Ah, there are some Diss burials on FreeREG, including James Rice buried 22 Dec 1839, age 50.

And there is an Amelia Rice age 50, female servant, not born in county, at Crown Street, Diss on the 1841 census. I'll see if I can work out what happened to her...

She would have been known as Milly all her life. And all the officials she came into contact with couldn't be doing with that, so decided her name should have been either Millicent or Amelia.
I have wadges of Millys who are indiscriminately recorded under either forename, depending on the vicar or enumerator.

Oh yes, on the 1851 census Amelia is with son William (Elizabeth's brother) in Diss and she is age 63 born Palgrave, Suffolk. There is a likely death registration for her in Oct-Dec 1870, Depwade district, age 83. I can't see her in 1861 just now but she must be somewhere!

She's in Diss, under the other variant I forgot to mention: Emily!
