I got all excited about finding my 5x gt grandfather's will, paid my £3.50 & find that the first page is missing...tantalisingly I can see the edge of the missing page in the ledger...

Have emailed them explaining (& complaining). Anyone else had this problem?

I had one that was unreadable once and I contacted them and they rescanned it and emailed it to me.

Sounds like there's hope then :)

The handwriting's beautifully clear, not like some of the dreadful scrawl some of the clerks produced.

Had a email, this will is quite big so comes as 2 pdfs which I now have.

I've had a couple of those, Jill, where you have to download the two parts separately.

I had a will from scotland and its written in pencil - unfortunately its virtually illegible - have had it scanned to twice the size and even then couldn't get to read it properly. Even the people at the National Archives of Scotland said it was the worst they'd seen.

Only recourse I suppose is to employ a professional and it would cost too much for something not that important.
