Sarah Moore nee Joyner

Was bp 1785 in Lytchett Minster, Dorset & born in Hamworthy (which had no church of its own at the time)

She moved with her daughter to Portsmouth & is with the Hawkins family there in 1861, birthplace Dorset.

There is a death of a Sarah Moore aged 92 in Portsea in 1877.

So far, so good.

But in the workhouse in 1871 is Sarah Moore, born DEPTFORD KENT.

Could Dorset have been misheard as Deptford?

I cannot find another death of a Sarah Moore in Portsea. The one in the early 1860s is not her - I got the certificate. Nor can I find a Sarah of the right age born Deptford in 1861.

Any bright ideas?

If the only thing that doesn't fit is the birthplace and you can't find another person of the same name with that birthplace I'd guess it was an error. I have found workhouse entries on censuses are likely to be vaguer - or wrong - with birthplaces, I assume because they were filled in by a workhouse employee who didn't know and wasn't bothered about being accurate.

My gut feeling is that's her, Nell. But it would have been nice if the details had been right.
