Thank you very much.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday checking to make sure I couldn't find him on other census so other people didn't waste their time and zilch! And I see Walter Emma's brother is with them too.

Do you think this could be him in 1861

I have no idea why he would be in Devon doesn't seem likely and if I could find the rest of the family without him I might be convinced its him. The age is out a bit. William was both a bedstead maker and cabinet maker just like his father. I assume the jobs are interchangeable.

I found the rest of the family

That's weird so am I on the first link the second link works!

Edit to say:

Something has just occurred to me my direct ancester Martha 'Louisa' Sayer was born on 16th Jan 1861 and William and Emma didn't marry until 21st August 1862 maybe he was keeping his head down or was trying to hide, or run away or something! James his older unmarried brother was still at home as I can see now I've found them on the 1861 census! Louisa was their first child and she wasn't baptised until she was 13 years old with a few of her younger siblings.

I've searched for him myself and found that image.

It could quite well be him. The age is a little out but the occupation is right, cabinet maker.

does this link work?:

Yes it does and I think it is him.

I edited my post above because I have thought of a scenario of why he could have been in Devon but we'll never know for sure.
