I'm trying to look for them on ancestry, but I keep getting the boy with the noose at the moment, so may have to try again later.

found an odd one here, searched catherine welch on general search, got back an entry for 1871,age 9, living with mother mary and sister alice at the house of mary maley in whitchurch were agnes was born in 1871, the birth place for the 2 girls is kilrenny, never heard of that but kilkenny is supposed to mary's birthplace although its down as dublin here, mary's age is down as 46, too old, but if you look at the original and compare the number to a 4 or a 2 it looks more like a 2 to me, looks very close , can someone else look at it please

Yes, it looks like 26 to me. But I wonder where Elizabeth was? She should be 2 in 1871. I was searching for Agnes' birth to see if she was born before or after the census but couldn't find it.

Ah, found it now - Agnes' birth was registered in the first quarter of 1872, so she was 9 when the 1881 census was taken, not 10.

That boy with the noose is still getting in the way and stopping me from looking for Martin and Elizabeth. Though it could be that the enumerator messed the entry up and missed them out although they should have been with the rest of the family.

yes, the whole entry is a mess, the only kilrenny is in fife, and martin being down as a journeyman shoemaker, which is demonstrated by the range of places the children were born, could mean he was away, working, wonder what a rag and skin collector is?
