Looking for Mary Ann Jones (born and baptised Oxford 1815) after 1851 and I’d like to know what you think of this 1861 for her please.

There are quite a few Mary Jones deaths in the area each decade, so I’m trying to narrow down the number of possibles.

1841 HO107; Piece 891 Folio 20 P34
Holywell St, Holywell
John Jones 1811 Out of county College Servant
Mary Ann Jones 1821 Oxfordshire

George Jones 1840 Oxfordshire

1851 HO107/ 1728; Folio: 58; P 28
61 Holywell St, Holywell, Oxford
John Jones 1806 Burton, Cheshire College Servant
Mary A Jones 1816 Oxford, Oxfordshire
John Jones 1840 Oxford
George Jones 1841 Oxford
Thomas Jones 1844 Oxford
William E Jones 1848 Oxford

1860 (Jackson’s Oxford Journal) died – Emily Jane Jones, 5, daughter of the late John Jones of Holywell Street.

1861 RG9/ 895; Folio: 108; P 28
2 Packend St, St Thomas, Oxford
Maryann Jones widow 1820 Oxford, Oxfordshire Confectioner
Thomas W Jones 1844 Oxford Solicitor’s General Clerk
Edward Jones 1848 Oxford
Bessie Jones 1854 Oxford

Note: William E of 1851 was registered Edward William and, according to a descendant and the 1881, was known as Edward.

Looks quite likely. Could Bessie be Elizabeth Rowlins Jones whose birth was registered Sep 1853?

I wondered about that Elizabeth Kite. There's no Rowlins on the mother's side of the family but I don't know anything about John Jones senior. She might also be the Bessie Jones, born Oxford, servant, in 1871 in Birkenhead as brother Edward/William is in Birkenhead by 1881. I can't identify brothers John and George after 1851 though.

I didn't know if it was feasible for Mary Ann to have become a confectioner between 1855ish and 1861. Also, I was wondering if it was more likely she was a relative of the Jones next door in 1861 who don't seem to have any connection with Cheshire.

Do you have your Thomas's birth registration or baptism to confirm if his middle initial was W?

No - up until the other day when Edward William's descendant contacted me via Ancestry, I knew only that Mary Ann Salmoni had married a John Jones in 1838. My contact has sent me a transcript of that marriage, with John Jones' occupation, and details of Edward William's marriage and children. He hasn't found any of the family between 1851 and 1881. Edward was a ship's mate which is possibly why there's no sign of him in 1871.
