Norfolk parish registers have been released today on the pilot familysearch site. They're not indexed tho only browsable images.

Enjoy, think it will be late night for me!

How do you get to browse the images? I'm just getting an empty search box.

Look just below and there is a magnifying glass with browse our record collections click on it and then select Europe from the drop down menu.

If you look down the list Norfolk has a red asterisk by it.

Let me know when you get to the images.

When you want to save an image you will have to put a (dot) jpg like this ----> .jpg extension on the save file otherwise you won't be able to open them.

I am having problems actually reading the images, is there anyway to make them bigger?

In the corner of the page there should be a smaller image in a box there's a plus and minus click on the plus... and use the hand cursor to move the page about.

Triple thanks! Finally found my gt x 2 grandmother's baptism which also gives her birthdate and is a year later than on IGI! Plus another sibling for her. Yippee!

I thought of you when I was going through the Docking burials and marriages.

Spotted a few that might be yours last night but it was midnight so I thought you'd probably look yourself today :)

I got loads :) from Docking, Beetley, Great Massingham and Carbrooke. Two of my mother's ancestor strands originated from Norfolk.

Thank you very much Jay for that link it probably would have passed me by for a few weeks/months.

Have found loads of my half sisters family on there already.

Will save my sister from travelling into Norwich from Docking now to view the records.

It's great to know you can take your time, I'm sure I missed a lot rushing through microfilm at Norfolk Records Office, knowing they were shutting at lunchtime!!!

The earlier they go back though I was looking through 1700s late last night and the images are difficult to read at times so its hard going. But like Nell says you can take your time and it all doesn't have to be done in a rush.

Edit to say: I have also been doing a lot on my Scottish side so I'm all over the place :) I don't know if I'm coming or going :d

Pleased to hear everyone is having success. Just like being in the archives but you can shout as loud as you want when you find something without being told to shhhh!! And having never managed to get down to NRO it's great.

I've found out quite abit lastnight, tho there's a few parishes that i'm interested in that don't seem to be listed.

Happy hunting

I've spent loads of time looking at Rockland St Peter & think I may have found my family. I have already listed all instances of my names from looking at fiche, so am able to add more now. I am sure I will be posting questions soon. :)

I just wished they'd come online last week. I've been off work sick but am back to work on Monday :(

Unfortunately, Brancaster doesn't seem to be on there - I hope it's going to be added at some later date. And a lot of the pages I've tried to view have said not available. Probably teething troubles.

JayG
21-02-10, 18:58
Same here Kite, there's a few i'm after that aren't on. I've only had the 'page not available' once, clicked back on the page, that started to load, then clicked forward & it loaded no problem.

I have only been able to view one image tonight, which is most annoying!

Georgette
21-02-10, 20:43
I'm not having any luck tonight, either :o Hopefully it'll be working properly again tomorrow.

WendyPusey
21-02-10, 20:50
I've not had any problems viewing images today.

Nell
21-02-10, 22:43
Wendy you've broken it for everyone else. It won't work for me either, just when I got all excited about checking up a baptism I haven't been able to find.

JayG

Dare I admit i'm not having any problems viewing images

maggie_4_7

I had a few problems viewing images yesterday that I viewed late on Friday.
Perhaps its to do with the amount of users online at one time. But some I could view okay.

Lynn the Forest Fan
22-02-10, 05:58
Well I only managed 1 last night so am hoping for more luck today

Georgette

Nothing is working for me today! *weeps*

WendyPusey
22-02-10, 08:44
Hate to say this, but it's OK for me.

Must be only certain records that work, as I have just tried another Parish and it won't load the image.

Georgette
22-02-10, 09:48
Oooh! That makes me feel a bit better :)

Lynn the Forest Fan

Nell
22-02-10, 21:04
Well I did check some parishes I had been able to read previously and they weren't available either.

I think Wendy and Janet have broken it for everyone else!

Georgette
22-02-10, 22:12
I've been a bit more successful with viewing images too tonight. Unfortunately some of the registers I'm interested in are very badly damaged :o

Very slow loading but I've spotted my Saunders family in Blo Norton. That'll give me something to go at, have almost nothing on them at the moment.

Maggie

Thank you.

Did it work? Sorry I had to rush this morning I had to leave for work.

I had a likely marriage for one of my rellies in 1816 (which Wendy Pusey kindly looked for a while ago) and checked the marriage register entry online which told me the groom's parish which was very likely. Bride's name was Gaymore. I looked for a baptism as I had a birthplace on the 1851 census and found a suitable baptism, right year, surname Garmer.

Do you think this is likely? I've been saying Gaymore/Garmer in a cod Norfolk accent all day!

WendyPusey
23-02-10, 18:15
I'm Norfolk born and bred Nell, and I would probably say "Gaymer" so yes, if they had a broad accent I think it could be mistaken and written as "Garmer"

Yes it did.

Can't wait to get stuck into this. A whole new family to research. Having had a quick look at the Blo Norton records there are a lot of them. One of them seems to be a "serial witness" LOL. Her name on lots of records.

Nell
23-02-10, 18:42
Thanks Wendy

Marg - perhaps she was the only one who could write her own name!

Margaret in Burton
23-02-10, 18:51
Perhaps so Nell

I've just started searching through them all and making a note of all Saunders. Some pages load really fast and some are sooooooooooooooo slow.

If anyone ever finds the Yarmouth St Nicholas marriages for 1751, please let me know! I've found the ones up to 1750 and the ones from 1754 onwards, but not 1751.

First in the St Nicholas list 'Banns, Marriages' - marriages 1751-1761 :)

Does anyone know what data set is being used? It looks as if it is the stuff that was fiched pre fire ie pre 1 August 1994. But I can't find anything that tells you the rationale behind it.

Margaret in Burton
24-02-10, 20:17
I think I may have found a trick to speed the download time up. It worked for me yesterday.
If the image is slow downloading then click to the next image, let that start to download a little then click back to the previous image. Zoomed along for me.

Margaret in Burton
25-02-10, 19:56
Hope I'm not speaking too soon, but the Norfolk images are speeding along for me this evening.

edit:

Knew I'd break it. All I'm getting now is: This image is currently unavailable, please try again later.

Grrrrrrrrr

This seems to be on all of the images

Hope they are back tomorrow and not that they have them on the database now and the images are going to disappear.

*wails, I want to look for myself*
