I've just downgraded mine a few weeks ago;(

I'm looking for information on a Jabez Chappel, born 1824 in Devon.

It looks like he spent some time in Canada and comes up in the Immigration and Emigration section on Ancestry. Any information would be welcome please.

The only one I can see is the rev. J Chappell leaving Quebec in 1893 but that is too late for your chap.

He seems to be on all the UK censuses except 1851 when he was probably in Canada.

Ok thanks for looking Anne & Merry. I've found him in every census but 1851 and he had a child born in Nova Scotia in c1851. It looks like he was a Chelsea Pensioner.

He's only distant family, but I'm just curious (ok then nosy!!)

Does it say which Regiment he was in? If you know you can look in the muster lists for the appropriate years.

I had one soldier in Canada for nearly 10 years according to his service docs. I tried to find others in the Regiment in 1851 (their svc docs hadn't survived) but they were enroute from Ireland to Canada (a real pain).

Hello JBee. On some of the census records it says he was with the royal artillery.
