Surname brilliant for mistranscription. :eek::eek:

Birth: Dec qtr 1872, Kings Norton, 6c 503

Death: Mar qtr 1912, Solihull, 6d 801 (death registered as Cuquemelle)

1911: 29 Gough Rd, Greet, Yardley, Worcestershire (Solihull reg)
RG14PN18673 RG78PN1115 RD392 SD1 ED35 SN263

1901: 137 Frenley Rd, Yardley RG13; Piece: 2925; Folio: 15; Page: 22

On the 1911 census she says she is a widow and was married 18 years with 9 children, 5 have died.

1901 census she is supposedly Mrs Edward SIMKISS. I can't find a marriage.

Eldest daughter Violet was registered as Cuquemelle (Mar qtr 1892 Birmingham 6d 6)

She seems to be known as Marie and she was born in Spon Lane, Staffordshire, which is in the West Bromwich area.

Can anyone find her in 1881 and 1891?

The name Cuquemelle seems to originate from the Channel Islands.

I think this may be her in 1881 (transcribed as Elena Cuquesne):

And here's the same girl in 1891, still living with her mother, and transcribed as Marie Aeguemille:

Her birthplace in both cases is given as Smethwick, which is only a couple of miles from Spon Lane.

Yes, thank you Mary. I've just found a death for Reine Cuquemelle in 1926 in Birmingham aged 85. That would be her father.

Wonder where they are in 1891?

We cross posted. Thank you Mary

She's only the mother in law in to one of mine but I found her name fascinating and couldn't resist looking into it.

That's her father in 1891 not her mother. What is his occupation? In 1881 it's solderer.

*edit*

It is her mother, sorry

No, it's her mother Reine. Occupation soft solderer.

Can't see them in 1871, although they should have been in the Clerkenwell area.

Hiya Margaret....there are 800 hits for Cuquemelle on geneanet.org and they are predominately from Normandie....I know this is a French based site...but on page 21 of the family tree list there is a Cuquemelle b United Kingdom...the username is Berserker...if you click on it it gives you his full name and e-mail address and it also gives his home address...he lives in Brighton ....so if you are "curious" about the Cuquemelle connection you could very easily contact him...I hope you do cos I`m curious now...lol....allan:)

Thanks Allan, I'll look into that.

Daft thing is that they aren't even related to me. A daughter of the one born in the Birmingham area married a nephew of my great grandmothers. It was the name that got me, never had a foreign connection before.

There are some births, marriages and banns from the Paris area on Ancestry; I checked them, and there are quite a few Cuquemelles, but not yours.
