I have found it hard to find births for them all as Jackson is such a common name.

I would like to try to find some descendants.

Starting by hoping that Mary Jane got married at the same church as Sarah Eliza did (St John, Manchester) there are a couple of possible marriages for her between 1861 and 1871:
1866 to William H Whittle or 1867 to John Mayor.

Off to try 1871 census for those...

Thanks Kate!
They have frustrated me so much over the past few years. Just finding my great-grandmother's birth certificate was tricky.

Ooh, yes! She's transcribed as Mary F Mayor on ancestry but it says J on the image (1871):

36 Pickford St., Stretford, Lancashire
John Mayor Head Mar 26 Maker Up Lancashire Preston
Mary J Do Wife Mar 24 Yorkshire Halifax
John H Do Son 2 Lancashire Manchester

Then there are a couple of possible marriages for Emma at the same church:

1871 to William Morris
1872 to Frederick Fox

Oh, brilliant - thanks!

She is correctly transcribed on FMP!

Mary and John Mayor named a daughter after her mother - Sophia. 1891 census!

Thanks Kiterunner for putting me onto this family.:)

Lancashire BMD

However, I can't find a marriage for them.

They may not have actually got married, since it would have been illegal.

The two children died -
John Henry aged 30 in 1898 and Sophia in 1896.

Emma died as Emma Mayor in 1906 and John Mayor died in 1908, both in Stretford.

My grandfather must have known them as they lived there.

Thankyou Kiterunner for finding them for me.

I just need to find William now...

Just in case you didn't know, Skircoat Green is part of Halifax. I don't think there's another Skircoat in Yorkshire.

Mary thank you - we were up there about 18 months ago and stayed in Halifax.

Sophia Jackson, nee Stillings, lived at Bolton Brow just outside Halifax where her father was a corn miller. We also went to Sowerby and also Heptonstall where the Jackson family originally came from. What an amazing place!

Yes, Heptonstall's fascinating. I used to work in Hebden Bridge, so I know it quite well.

I don't think it's going to be so easy to find William especially since he may well have changed his occupation after 1871.

Kiterunner, I agree with you. I'm resigned to the fact that I may never find him! I have tried searching using various places of birth such as "Halifax", "Greetland" and "Skircoat" as appear for his siblings, but nothing seems to help.

I also wonder whether he emigrated, not that I have any basis for this.:d
