My OH has a DNA match of 116 cM across 7 segments with a person with the surname Kingston. OH's great-grandmother was Elizabeth Kingston, born at Whitby.

The tree is very sparse. Thomas Kingston, born c. 1879, is the person of interest (the match is one of his descendants).

Thomas Kingston married Florence Rosina Beazer in Q3 1921 at Hartepool, Co. Durham. They had two sons.

I have no place of birth for Thomas and his descendant says he was born at Swindon, which I believe to be incorrect. They said he died in 1939, which is probably because Florence was a widow by the time of the 1939 Register.
I found a probable death registration for him:

KINGSTON, THOMAS 50 GRO Reference: 1929 S Quarter in TENBURY Volume 06C Page 92

This means he was born in c. 1879.

On OH's tree we have a Thomas Kingston born Q2 1879 at Scarborough. He was the son of George Kingston, born 1843 at Whitby, the brother of OH's great-grandmother. I can find Thomas up until 1901, when he appears to be in the army. I'm trying to prove/disprove whether he is the Thomas who married Florence Rosina Beazer.

I haven't had any luck yet with service records.

I wish I could find him in 1911 and 1921. He was in Hartlepool for his marriage in 1921, after the census, but both his sons were born in Gloucestershire.

Who is the Thomas Kingston whose service records survive who married Evelyn Sadie Tillett?

She had two children. She's with her family in 1921. In 1939 she says she's married - but in neither case does she have a husband with her.

Living in Scarboro St Hartlepool.

Merry, my membership has lapsed (although I keep thinking I must renew). Could you summarise what it says, please?

Snap, Merry! Right birthplace and address - and working in a workhouse, like Florence.

Evelyn's husband - as usual for me - is a red herring. Heavy labourer, born Hartlepool.

There is no Thomas Kingston born at Scarborough around 1883.

One of the sons was called George Albert Kingston, born 1924, now deceased.
Thomas Kingston's father was George.
Florence/Flossie's father was Albert.

Of course, the quickest way to prove this is to buy the marriage certificate but I was trying to find another way!

Many thanks, Merry and Phoenix.

Florence obviously didn't like being Flossie:

Ooh, thanks!

Nobody with trees for the Kingston family from Whitby seems to know what happened to him, so thanks for finding him.
