View Full Version : What does this say?
I can't read the caption under this photo. I only know it was taken in the 1860s in Dublin. I believe I know who wrote the caption, but that hasn't helped!

Any ideas?

My dear Sister ?????? her Mari
Mari is French for husband but why suddenly switch to French at the end?
Exactly what I read! lol
Sister's names are...
Susan
Rebecca
Anne
Susan didn't marry. Anne might have spent some of her marriage in Ireland, so she's the best fit, but it doesn't say Anne. Maybe a nickname?
Could it be her surname? The two married sisters were Rebecca Lockwood and Anne Siree.

I think it could be an initial then "and".
Oh, OK - having another look....
Thanks - that does seem likely, though of course the initial isn't clear and doesn't seem to be any of the likely ones! Thanks for your help, Kate. I will ask the album owner if any of the other captions are similar.
Agree with Kite that it looks like ? and her Mari. Suggests it is a nickname for her partner, which might mean that the sister herself had a pet name.
That sounds pretty plausible! Thanks Phoenix.
