Salvation Army Receiving Centre Quebec

I know my fil went to Canada as I have him returning in 1936 but didn't know when he went until yesterday. (stayed much longer than we thought).

Have found him as a 15 year old on the Carmania passenger arrivals in Quebec in 1924.

His destination address was the Salvation Army Receiving Centre Quebec and the fare paid by SA Boys Scheme or School.

His occupation was given as what looks like Farm student (he was from Edinburgh?)

Is there any way of finding out what he did in Canada - apart from contacting the Sally Army.

Does it state his occupation on the passenger list when he returned to the UK?

Yes - it says he was a labourer age 27.

Thanks Kite - will have to contact Sally Army but won't be holding my breath that they have any records. He wasn't an orphan just one of the youngest in a family.

Could he have come over to Canada as one of the British Home Children? The children weren't necessarily orphans, some were from large and poor families.

you might be pleasantly surprised - I have been told that the SA have good records.

I would think he went under a charitable scheme run by the SA to place boys on farms, supposedly to learn farming......I have never heard that the SA were negligent in their placings...they had no involvement in the notorious farm schools, so maybe he was one of the lucky ones who was well treated.

Fingers crossed - it would be great to find out what happened to him.

I think he returned to UK because of ill-health. OH said that he'd been ill for years as that's how his parents met. He died OH was a boy.
