Question re woman's previous name on remarriage

I get very confused with searching for women who have been previously been married then marry again. Do I look for the new marriage using her previous married name (the last name she was known by) or her maiden name (name she was born with pre 1st marriage name).

Is this the same for England & Scotland?

In England she should be using her previous married surname, but in Scotland more likely to be the name she was born with.

Thanks Kite, I think this is what is making me very confused as it's my first experience of Scottish ancestors, although she used her previous married name not her maiden name when she married in England !
