Just seen that the GRO are now offering some birth and death certs as instant downloads for £2.50! Now, where did I put that list?

We have already got a thread about this on the Family History news board:

I thought we had discussed this previously but couldn't find the thread, sorry.

It's only the earlier births and death certificates OC.

Deaths up to 1880's can't remember births though.

I've just tried to order the PDF of the death certificate of my 2 x great grandfather Joseph Goadby, registered in September Quarter 1877 and they want the full £7.00!

Try clicking on digital image. That's only £2.50

Digital image was not listed. Have they missed him?

I've just tried and it worked (using his name).

Try starting here:

That worked. Thanks. I've ordered it now and have the receipt. How long will it take to come?

You should be able to download it straight away, AN.

Ah, found it.

Shocking writing. Can't read the cause of death, or the name of the informant.

Have submitted my first query. I ask for the death of Catherine Pierce, and get that of Christopher William Carter!

It's from the correct page, but the bit from the entry above isn't her either. I would hope that they were only one entry out.

Curiously, he died on 6th May and his death was registered on 7th.

She was buried on the 8th, her body being transported from Battersea to Wonersh in Surrey. Did they really manage to sort everything out, register her death and get her buried the following day?

Is this her probate?

Died 3 May 1878 at the "Surrey Hounds". So the burial was 5 days after her death.

Christopher William Carter was buried 10th May. 4 days after his death.

Oh my goodness, yes! Thank you, Kite! That's brilliant triangulation, being buried where her sister lived, and having her brother sort out her estate. (Do you suppose she'd run up a rather large bar-bill?)
