I am stuck on John Hood & Elizabeth ? the parents of James Hood (see below):
Name James Hood
Event Type Baptism
Baptism Date 17 Aug 1788
Baptism Place Nuneaton, St Nicolas, Warwickshire, England
Parish Nuneaton, St Nicolas
Father John Hood
Mother Eliz Hood

There appears to be at least three John Hoods of the right age in Nuneaton c1788. Any suggestions?

Is he the James Hood, son of John, who was buried 5 May 1789 at St Nicholas, Nuneaton? (And if not, how do you know?)

possibility ?
see what you think of this one
John Hood
Married 17 April 1775, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England, to Elizabeth Gent 1750-1816

of course if there were 3 John Hoods at the time - ther may be 3 Elizabeths ??
....................
the tree says James was b 1787?? but - not all trees are correct

Allan, how do you know that the James Hood who was the son of John and Elizabeth isn't the one who was buried in 1789?

Always add an extra layer of complexity for Nuneaton *winks*

Your best hope of sorting the whole thing out is to find a will.

Nuneaton wills are here:

I saw your tree on Ancestry. Is this James who you were hoping would be the father of Francis Robinson Hood b 1822 Nuneaton?

As FRH lived in Deptford for many years, I'm presuming this death notice is relevant:

Coventry Herald 08 January 1858

On the 29th ult., at his son's residence, Deptford, Kent, in his 62nd year, Mr. James Hood, formerly of Nuneaton.

The same notice was also placed in the Coventry Times and the Coventry Standard and the Aris's Birmingham Gazette

Here is his death reg:

HOOD, JAMES 62
GRO Reference: 1857 D Quarter in GREENWICH Volume 01D Page 361

Francis R Hood is at 20 Union St Deptford on the 1861 census. The burial of his father at Nunhead Cemetery, Linden Grove, Southwark gives the deceased's address as Union Street, St Paul's Deptford.

So, he wasn't as old as you thought!

Now all you have to do is find him in 1851 and you will have his birthplace..... :D

I guess, as FRH's mother was Charlotte, this is her death reg, as the burial at the same place as her husband was from Union St Deptford on 12 May 1862:

HOOD, CHARLOTTE 76
GRO Reference: 1862 J Quarter in GREENWICH Volume 01D Page 357

So, Charlotte was a little older than her husband.

I'm sure I saw a couple called Wood in 1851 where the wife was older and from Hull, but I didn't know if they should have been written Hood.

I don't know Warwickshire at all really, so I'm not sure what his place of birth is, but it's not Nuneaton! Maybe someone who knows the area could take a look?

Misspelling of Wolston?

Could well be!

Yes, looks like Wolston. Small village, which might help.

The Charlotte Hood from Hull who appears as a visitor in Kentish Town in 1861, is with a Robinson family.

Could she have been born Charlotte Robinson?

Oh yes, sorry, yes she was. I think OP has the marriage record.
